BEER BREAD UPDATE: It’s April 6th, 2020 and the world has been infected with Covid – 19. In order to fight against this highly infectious virus, Canada, has been asked to self isolate. We’ve been asked to stay home. Except for going out to buy essentials, we are living quiet lives. Social distancing means no physical interaction with family, outside those you live with, or friends. Fear, loneliness and boredom are fighting hard to take over our daily thoughts.
One thing that hasn’t changed is our love of food. Despite or, maybe because of the coronavirus, people are at home cooking. They’re finding comfort in the simple act of preparing food. Newbies to seasoned cooks are online sharing family favourites. No one is doing fancy. It’s not what the world wants right now. People want comfort. The food from our childhoods; from a happier time. Food that is rich in personal history. Food that makes you smile.
This time will end. Slowly, we’ll go back to our normal lives. Until then, let’s stay connected, stay home, stay safe and cook!
This recipe was given to me by a friend who got it from a local restaurateur. It is also all over the internet but if you have not tried it, give it a go. You will have hot, delicious bread on the table in less than one hour! If there is any left over, it is also lovely toasted the next day. The yeast in the beer in combination with the baking powder causes the bread to raise. The bread has a dense texture with a slightly sweet taste. I have played around with different flour and ingredient combinations which all tasted great. Once you make this bread recipe, you will be hooked!
BEER BREAD
makes 1 loaf
preheat oven 375*F
3 cups flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
3 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
12 ounce bottle of beer
1/4 cup butter, melted
Mix dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.
Pour one 12 ounce bottle of beer [your choice] over the top and stir until just combined. The batter will be lumpy!
Place batter in 9 x 5 x 3 loaf pan
Pour 1/4 cup melted butter over the top of the bread dough.
Bake for 45 minutes.
Allow beer bread to cool for 1/2 hour before slicing…

Never have tried to make bread before, this looks right up my alley…my only question and this may sound dumb (novice baker to say the least) but do you grease the loaf pan first?
Yes and I should have mentioned that.
Thanks Jody!
YEA! now that is more my style
making that tonight
I posted it for you!
I love making beer bread! I buy self rising flour so I can skip adding the extra ingredients- instead it’s just butter, self rising flour, sugar and beer!
brilliant! thanks for the tip.
I made this last week. You gave me the recipe a long time ago. It was so good. The kids ate it all up.
I can eat a whole loaf myself! I’m glad they liked it.
